essential question: What is geography?

Geography is the study of the Earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live.

Success Criteria: Know that there are three types of Geography: Physical, Human and Environmental. Understand what is meant by physical, human and environmental Geography, Be able to give examples of the sorts of things that are studied in Geography lessons

Physical Geography is about natural things like:
  1. Volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, storms, floods
  2. Rivers, oceans, glaciers
  3. Soil, water, air
  4. Plants, animals, vegetation
  5. Weather and climate
  6. Mountains

human geography

Human Geography is about people and the things we make and do.  It studies things like:
  1. Populations
  2. Birth rates, death rates, family size, how long people live
  3. Settlements (towns, villages, cities, hamlets)
  4. Jobs
  5. Transport
  6. Industry

environmental geography

This is about how people affect our surroundings. We can damage it with things like pollution, or protect it like creating world heritage sites.
