Concert Poster Design
Posters must attract the audience. There are other posters in "competition" with yours, and you want people to gravitate toward your display.
Learning Intention: To design a concert poster of a band or singer.
Success Criteria: The poster must use an album/CD cover as the theme. The poster will be created through the use of scanning the albums or downloading high resolution images from the Internet, and designing using Photoshop. Posters will be presented on A3 paper.
EXAMPLE OF BRIEF
BRIEF - Emerging Irish singer Damien Rice has approached KAORD designs to come up with two concepts and examples of a poster that will advertise his one and only gig at ‘The Gov’ in Hindmarsh’ on Christmas Eve this year.
Rice is an emerging singer in Australia that wants his CD images incorporated into the poster but does not have a lot of money, so he would like to keep the poster simple, yet eye catching.
The poster needs to clearly state his name, time of the gig (8pm), all age’s gig, location, and where tickets are sold (through ‘The Gov’ or at the door unless sold out prior, cost will be $30). Check out ‘The Gov’ website
The size of the poster will be A3 so that it can be stuck up easily around schools, university’s, on walls, light and electricity poles etc.

FOLLOW THE DESIGN PROCESS TO CREATE THIS WORK
- Find and print/photocopy examples of good and bad poster design on the Internet and in the library.
- Come up with four design concepts (thumbnails).
- Then the two mock-ups should be A4 and the final A3.
- The CD cover will need to be scanned for the images or downloaded from the Internet.
- The final design will be made in Photoshop
This poster WILL include the following items
- Text
- Communicate a message
- Integrate technology
- Simplification of objects/figures
- Use of symbols to help express a theme
USE AS A GUIDE
- Use primary colours and complementary colours
- Use simple and LARGE FONTS
- Use small blocks for the text - a wall of text is not attractive
- Use only one type of font (mixed fonts may have an unprofessional look).
- Avoid using too many style changes (i.e., shadow, bold, italics, underscoring, etc.).
- Make sure text is spelt correctly
Marking will evaluate
- Overall composition
- Communication of idea/message
- Use of technology and resources
- Design skills, following process and plan
