HOw do artists create art with
purpose and meaning?
This page is dedicated to record in one place a range of artworks with different meanings, messages, movements and techniques collected by myself (Ms. Axford) from all around the world. It is a mish mash of lots of photos and videos I have taken or resources I have found over the years of loving to find things usually in museums and galleries that excite and inspire me. The aim is to inspire and generate ideas for all students I teach.

Combat Artist: Richard Johnson
http://news.nationalpost.com/tag/kandahar-journal Richard Johnson has been a graphics editor and news illustrator for publications such as The Washington Post and the National Post's Kandahar Journal. He has been a combat artist that has been sketching Canadian soldiers in recent wars. He was inspired by the work of Howard Brodie. Johnson talks about the power of sketching rather than just taking a photograph. He states at the end of his TEDx talk that a war zone is an absurd place to send an artist but it is an essential place to send an artist. |
