Welcome to my website!
My name is Katrina Axford, and since 2023, I have been proud to serve as the Deputy Principal at Findon High School in Adelaide, South Australia.
Since completing the Leading Schools Program with High Tech High in the United States in 2012, I’ve focused on creating a digital portfolio that sits at the heart of my teaching and leadership practices. This website is a transparent space for students, parents, caregivers, teachers, and the wider global community to access my resources, examples, and experiences.
From 2011 to 2014, I worked at Mark Oliphant College as the Senior Years Visual Arts teacher and leader of Project-Based Learning (PBL), where I successfully launched PBL with Year 10 students and teachers, integrating projects aligned with the Australian Curriculum. In 2015, I was promoted to PBL Coordinator, overseeing PBL implementation across Years 7 to 10.
In 2016/17, I took on the role of Head of School at IPACA in Portland, Dorset, England. This experience was both challenging and rewarding, and I’m grateful for the growth it brought me. You can read more about my time at IPACA on this page or by clicking here.
From 2018 to 2021, I was the Senior Leader of Middle School Transformation and Interdisciplinary Learning at Wirreanda Secondary School. My time at Wirreanda was incredibly fulfilling, as it is a school full of ambition and a culture of excellence in educating young people in the south. I will always cherish my time at Wirreanda, a school that stands out as a leader in best practice.
This website is dedicated to quality teaching and learning practices. My passion is Project-Based Learning, complemented by high-quality explicit teaching and the integration of positive psychology. I firmly believe that educators must continuously rethink and adapt their approaches to create relevant and authentic learning experiences that meet the needs of today’s students—not yesterday’s.
Oh, and I absolutely LOVE teaching Art! Go the Arts!
