Welcome to my website. My name is Katrina Axford and from 2023 I am proud to write that I am the Deputy Principal at Findon High School in Adelaide, South Australia.
My focus since completing the Leading School Program with High Tech High in the United States in 2012 has been to create a digital portfolio to be at the centre of my teaching practice and now leadership. My teaching and leadership is for all to see and access. Students, parents, caregivers, teachers and members of the global community can access all my resources, examples and experiences here on this website.
Between 2011 and 2014 I worked at Mark Oliphant College as the Senior Years Visual Arts teacher and leader of Project Based Learning, launching PBL with year 10 students and teachers to successfully implement projects that connected with the Australian Curriculum. In 2015 I was promoted to Project Based Learning Co-ordinator responsible for overseeing PBL throughout years 7 to 10. I continued in this role before taking the position of Head of School at IPACA for the 2016/17 UK academic year, moving to Portland, Dorset, England. IPACA was a challenging yet rewarding time in my career and I am thankful for the experience. See my page on IPACA or click here. From 2018 to 2021 I was the Senior Leader of Middle School Transformation and Interdisciplinary Learning at Wirreanda Secondary School and loved it. Wirreanda Secondary School is an incredible school, full of ambition and an ethic of excellence when it came to educating young people of the south. I will always cherish my time at Wirri and is a school others must be looking at for best practice.
This website is dedicated to quality Teaching and Learning practices. My passion is Project Based Learning with quality explicit teaching and positive psychology embedded throughout. I believe all who educate must change how they think about education constantly and adapt to create relevant and authentic learning experiences for todays (not yesterdays) students.
Oh and I absolutely LOVE teaching Art! Go the Arts!
