COURSE CARD DESIGN

Learning Intention: To experience being a real Graphic Designer!

Success Criteria:
  • Follow and use the steps of the design process to develop quality Course Cards
  • Design visually interesting Course Cards that promote the new English subjects in year 11 for 2019
  • Develop a plan and use timeline which meets the deadline of the brief.
DESIGN BRIEF

State the problem:

The English Teachers need you to design an image for each of the English course cards which encapsulates the ideas of that course. These cards will be primarily be used to help students make decisions about which English courses they will select during the 2019 course counselling workshops.

Requirements:
  • Simple design for each course card.
  • Attract attention whilst also being consistent with the content of that course.
  • Appeal to the target audience, whilst also being school-appropriate/consistent with WSS values.

Considerations:
  • Will be used on a two-sided ‘postcard’ - we anticipate that half of one side will display the course blurb, the other half will display the image. The other side of the postcard will include the course title, student quotes and essential questions.
  • The target audience will be Year 10 students selecting their Year 11 courses.
  • The course cards may also be used for other school events such as open nights.
  • The images may also be used in electronic versions of course materials. It would be useful for us to have access to an electronic form of the image itself which we can use on other materials (course overview documents etc)

Restrictions:
  • We need the images early enough for formatting and printing to occur. This means we need a final image by next Thursday.
  • We would like to provide feedback on a draft prior to the final image being settled.
  • The courses will be colour-coded - eg all the cards for term 1 will have the same colour headings. Please consider this when you are designing the images and advise us of a recommended colour theme for each term which will complement your designs.

WHAT imagery/Graphic/Design can you use/create?
