As a part of working with HTH we were given a critical friend. I was lucky enough to work with Jeff. Jeff is amazing and looks at being a teacher in a non traditional way and I loved it. Although Jeff and I had only small amounts of time together he had significant impact. I was able to sit in on his grade 12 lessons and was amazed at the knowledge not only of Jeff had but also the students. Jeff helped me reflect on not becoming too comfortable and taking the easy road, teaching the same thing over and over. Just because it is working for the teacher doesn't mean it is working for the students. He was passionate about creating prototypes before the students which at the time I thought he was crazy thinking I have no time to make my own piece. However now after doing prototypes for the last 5 projects I don't have time not too. Duane Schuit (my teaching partner in semester one 2013) stated it perfectly "You know when the kids are going to fall down and your prepared for that".

leading schools project
Welcome to the page dedicated to my leading schools project, this changed my life both professionally and personally. Throughout the 2012 and 2013 I focused on developing my understanding of PBL but also how the Arts in particular Visual Art can play a significant role in supporting core curriculum subjects. See the grey buttons that lead to four examples of projects that combine Art with English, Science and Maths, interviews I conducted with Teachers and Students and information about my experience with High Tech High and the Leading Schools Program.
How can Visual Arts at grade 10 in partnership with core subjects promote PBL using essential learnings ?
